You Made Our Dream a Reality!

The new outdoor social area at our Adult Skills Training Center in Little Rock is complete! The project is 100% complete and was funded through the United Way grant, our “No Chair Left Behind” campaign and private donations. Our clients are enjoying the new area each and every day! They have lunch at the picnic tables, relax and visit on the benches, participate in gardening activities to make the space beautiful and there is even breezy shade under the huge awning! Thank you to everyone who helped make this dream a reality and for your continued support of our organization and those we serve.

Comments from our clients when they first saw the new area:

“I thank God for this”
“We are so blessed”
This looks like a park!”
I’ve never planted flowers before this is fun!”

AEDD Receives $50,000 Grant from Heart of Arkansas United Way

Our “No Chair Left Behind” project is fully funded thanks to the generosity of our donors and a $50,000 grant awarded by the Heart of Arkansas United Way. Funding for the project will update the existing outdoor social area at the Lacy Landers Adult Skills Training Center to include a pavilion, extended sidewalks, wheelchair ramp, park benches, handicap-accessible picnic tables and landscaping. This area is utilized by AEDD consumers for breaks, lunch, socialization and other special events. The project will also include container gardening areas where consumers can assist with planting seasonal flowers to brighten up the space. Thank you to everyone who donated to this project and to United Way for your continuous support of our organization.

The AEDD Children's Center Library

Funds raised at Hawgs for a Cause along with a cash donation, book drive and volunteers from Regions Bank made our dream of establishing a library at the AEDD Children's Center a reality. The Regions Bank volunteers spent a day putting together shelves and furniture along with unpacking, labeling and sorting books. At the end of the day the kids made their first trip to the new library to hear a story and enjoy all the wonderful books on display. We received many generous gifts to AEDD in honor of Jim Hinson, former CFO and board member at AEDD. Jim passed away on Christmas Day 2013. He not only dressed up as Santa Claus each Christmas season and lent his knee to many children who told him their Christmas wishes, but Jim also devoted much of his life to advocating for those with special needs. We will genuinely miss him and are proud to dedicate the new children's library to his memory.

Donations in Jim's honor, unless otherwise requested, will be designated to supporting the new library at the AEDD Children's Center. Donations will be used to purchase books suitable for preschool children to add to our collection. The preschool staff and children are so excited about the library . This special place will provide a resource for the kids to be introduced to the wonderful world of books and gain a love of listening to stories and learning to read.
