Hawgs for a Cause 2012 - Report

The 2012 Hawgs for a Cause event was a huge success. The event was organized by Chairmen Felisha Rice, Teresa Whitehead and Leslie Smith along with the AEDD Auxiliary.

Proceeds from Hawgs for a Cause is the final fundraising event dedicated to raising funds to complete renovations of the building that will house the AEDD Parent Resource Center. Mary Giles spoke on behalf of the preschool regarding the new Parent Resource Center, which will open November 30, 2012.

The Home Depot was honored as the 2012 Champion for a Cause. Home Depot has donated over $70,000 in materials to AEDD over the last two years. Bob Doty, Home Depot District Manager, accepted the award on behalf of the three stores AEDD partners with: North Little Rock, Cabot and Chenal locations.

A video about Jaci, a child that attends the AEDD Children’s Center, was shown during Hawgs for a Cause. Jaci suffers from Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease). Her mother and father allowed an interview and taping of Jaci’s activities at the preschool. The video was shown at the event to provide awareness of the serious disabilities treated at the preschool.

The highlight of the evening was Channel 11’s, Craig O’Neill. He served as emcee, auctioneer and entertainer. Craig’s presence helped raise over $12,000 in the live and silent auctions alone. The purpose of Hawgs for a Cause is to raise awareness of AEDD’s services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The event will be featured in Arkansas Life magazine along with an article called “Chairty Close-up” in Inviting Arkansas.
