Looking Ahead to 2014
2013 Curtain Call for a Cause was held at the Argenta Community Theater on a stormy night, but provided so much wonderful entertainment hardly anyone noticed the weather! The event was organized by Chairman Gayla Jungmeyer and the AEDD Auxiliary.
Vincent Insalaco, Judy Tenebaum and Christen Pitts produced a wonderful show that included:
- Ballet performed by children with disabilities from the “I Can Dance” studio
- AEDD’s drama troupe “ACTS in the Rock,” directed by auxiliary members Jennifer Moore and Brittany Brown
- A variety of vocal, acting and dance numbers performed by talented professional and non-professional volunteers from the community
AEDD adult consumers participated by participating in the “ACTS in the Rock” drama performance and children attending the Sammie Gail Children’s Learning Center participated by painting six works of art that were included in the silent auction.
Curtain Call for a Cause raised awareness of AEDD’s services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and raised over $18,000 for the Lacy Landers Adult Skills Training Center and Sammie Gail Sanders Children’s Learning Center art and drama programs. Proceeds will also help fund an expansion of the sensory room at the Skills Training Center that provides an area for adults sensory disabilities such as Autism and Aspberger’s Syndrome.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Curtain Call for a Cause event on Thursday, May 29, 2014!

The 2012 Curtain Call for a Cause event was a huge success. Vincent Insalaco, Judy Tenebaum and Christen Pitts produced a wonderful show that included:
- Screening a video filmed by Roby Brock about the AEDD preschool
- Ballet performed by children with disabilities assisted by “Dancing Buddies”
- 14 talented volunteers from the community that performed a variety of vocal, narrative and dance numbers
The event was organized by Chairman Gayla Jungmeyer and the AEDD Auxiliary. The Auxiliary participated by selling and buying tickets, securing table sponsorships, soliciting over forty auction items and providing over twenty volunteers during the evening of the event. AEDD consumers participated by providing ten works of art for the silent auction painted during art classes held at the preschool and adult skills training center.
Approximately 150 people attended the event, of which 40% had not attended an AEDD function in the past and five expressed an interest in joining the AEDD Auxiliary. Curtain Call for a Cause raised awareness of AEDD’s services through three radio interviews, an extensive article in the High Profile section of the Democrat-Gazette and will be highlighted in Arkansas Life and Inviting Arkansas. Approximately $19,000 was raised for the AEDD Children’s Learning Center.
